The Belarusian State Academy of Music is a university-type institution of higher learning which is comprised of six major Departments, 24 Divisions, Magistracy, Post-Graduate and Doctoral courses, a series of musical companies (orchestras, choirs and ensembles), Opera Studio, Education Subdivision, Sector of Pedagogy Practice, Concert Subdivision, Subdivision for International Relations, Problem-Oriented Research Music Laboratory, Publishing Subdivision, Information Centre with exit to Internet, Scientific and Music Library, Record Library, Sound Recording Lab. From 1996 the Belarusian State Academy of Music has a Council for defending of Candidate's (from 2001 also of Doctor's) Degrees in specialty Musical Arts.

In 2000 the Belarusian State Academy of Music was assigned the status of the leading educational institution within the national educational system in the sphere of musical arts.

The Departments of the Academy the Piano and Composing-Musicology, Orchestra, Vocal-Choir and Folk Instruments, as well as the Pedagogy Department (in Mogilyov) are engaged in professional training of specialists in all musical specialities and specializations, and also of ballet-masters in the Choreography Subdepartment. In 1995 they started training Bachelors and Masters of Arts. The Department of Professional Upgrading is training and retraining of teachers of special secondary arts colleges. 

In 2002 division branches of the Belarusian State Academy of Music were launched in the cities of Brest, Grodno, Vitebsk, Gomel. Training of higher musical specialists in regional cities of the country is a perspective activity of the Belarusian State Academy of Music, which is carried out in conformity with the State Program of Development of Higher Education in Regions of Belarus.

The Belarusian State Academy of Music is a national centre of preservation and development of composer and performance schools, Belarusian musicology and musical pedagogy.

The Belarusian State Academy of Music is an institution of higher musical learning which is the basis for training specialists of musical arts, and which is ensuring the high level of all the leading professional musical companies of the country.
