The Pedagogical Department of the Belarusian State Academy of Music was organized in 1990 in the city of
Mogilyov. The opening of the Department was part of the program of development of regional higher musical education in the country which is being consistently implemented by the Academy of
Music. From the very start of its operation, the Pedagogical Department of the Belarusian State Academy of Music had its aim to train musical and pedagogical cadre for the Mogilyov
Region. The Department is training students in specialties "Instrumental Performance"
(piano, string, wind and folk instruments), "Choral Conducting", "Singing". The Department has formed the
students' orchestra of folk instruments, which acquired in 1998 the status of a philharmonic
one. The collective is actively giving concerts. Many
famous singers, such as B. Shtokolov, V. Noreiko, Yu. Bogatikov and many
others. Among the pupils of the Department are well-known Belarusian performance Elena Materinka
(laureate of the "Romanciada-99" international competition in Moscow) and Iskoui Abalyan
(laureate of the "Slavonic Bazaar" international competition in
Vitebsk).
